WHY UNIVERSITY OF ELDORET'S PROBLEMS WONT END SOON. University of Eldoret recently has been faced with continued problems that has seen temporally closure of the university twice within one year. This comes after the university was awarded charter by his Excellency Mwai Kibaki. According to most local politicians vice chancellor proff Akenga is the source of problems in the institution. University of Eldoret was awarded charter in the year 2013 February after a persistent pressure by the then minister of higher education Margaret Kamar. According to reliable sources the institution was not qualified for charter award. President Kibaki gave the institution charter due to pressure from the higher education minister who hailed from the institution as a professor previously before successfully contesting for Eldoret East constituency and later being appointed to the docket. The institution according to reliable statistics can only be compared to third world developing countries in terms of development. It is evident that the institution did not qualify for award of charter. The institution just like third world countries is suffering from poor management, dictatorship by top most management, poor infrastructures and continued strikes. The university will have to endure these conditions for the time being since in any society change is gradual. With the poor response to students complains and inappropriate channels for handling students request the university will have to put up with this wrangles. Currently the university has suspended first and second years though information that is reliable has it that some students have moved to court to protest the decision of the university senate. According to some local resident the university won’t have peace unless the current vice chancellor is transferred. They believe that she is the source of the university instability. The anonymous individual for fear of victimization said that the V.C has been favoring people from western region in terms of employment. He cited that the institution has so many lecturers from western region as compared to those from locals. As it stand the university wrangles won’t end any soon unless the local resident refrain from being hostile to the university management and particularly the current V.C. The local politicians should not interfere with the management of the institution. May be someone should advice them that higher education has not being devolved and is not going to be devolved any time soon. Someone should advice them to give priority to ECD and leave alone the university to the national government. Furthermore Uasin Gishu County has more problems for them to think about and solve they should direct that surplus energy to solving county problems rather than interfering with the institution. varsity news. giving you the truth when no one can trace it.
